Don Krieg and his pirates continue their siege on Baratie. Don Krieg’s second unit commander, Invincible Pearl, stands toe to toe with Sanji. As Pearl takes damage he becomes enraged and endangers the ship along with Sanji. While Sanji and Pearl fight, Sanji recounts his life as a child and how he came to be the cook he is today. It now falls to Luffy to defeat the mighty Don Krieg.
This volume was great in the terms of plot development. We got an excellent look at how Sanji came to be and why he’s a chef and we were also able to find out just who captain Zeff truly is. I love flashbacks in manga because we can get the whole picture and see how things were and how they came to be.
I was hoping that the battle between Don Krieg and Luffy would be concluded by now, the fight just seems to drag on. Granted it’s a great fight, but now we must wait another volume to see its conclusion. Luffy truly is something though as he holds off Krieg and puts up quite a fight. Certainly, not a fight to be missed.
This was a decent entry in the series and provided many minor details and plot points that could develop into something larger. This series seems to get better as it continues and that is a huge plus. No sign of things going stale yet. I look forward to the next volume and the conclusion of the fight between Luffy and Krieg.
I was hoping for more but what we got instead was a great flashback and some character developments from Sanji. I feel that in the coming volumes Sanji will be a huge part in the series, this is of course if he joins Luffy’s crew. Perhaps in the next volume we will see. All in all, One Piece volume 7 was a great read.
