The students infiltrate Fukuma Denjo hotel in hopes of quietly reaching their objective and acquiring the antidote for their classmates. What they find however is 3 highly trained assassins: Smog specializes in poison, Grip specializes in fighting, and Gastro specializes in guns. The students quickly find they are out of their depth. With a little luck the students manage to make it to the top and find that the person behind all of this is someone they know.

This volume had multiple character developments. With each assassin encounter the students showcased their individual skills and managed to incapacitate the aggressor. Fuwa, Karma, Chiba, and Hayami each went above and beyond to protect their classmates and deal with the issues at hand. It was nice to see more of each student’s skills as it gives the students more depth.

This was the first volume that the students had to fend for themselves. Smog managed to poison Karasuma and Koro Sensei is still in his absolute defense form. Even without the help of their teachers the students still performed better than my expectations. I had thought they would all be captured and then someone would have to save them. I was wrong in that regard.

As the students near the top of the hotel Karasuma regains his fighting ability and not a moment too soon. The adversary they face is one they had seen before, and he is dangerous. I will not spoil the ending of this volume but I do look forward to the next volume for the conclusion. In the end, it’s all up to Nagisa.

Overall this volume was amazing. As I had mentioned above it was nice to see the student’s skills and see what they are capable of. Even with facing those three assassins, the students didn’t flinch one bit. With the incapacitation of Karasuma the “trial by fire” element was thrown into the mix for the students. They had no choice but to succeed or die trying. This volume was thrilling and I cannot wait for the next volume. Assassination Classroom volume 8 was a great read.
